(ANSA) - Milan, February 28 - Silvio Berlusconi remains
Italy's richest politician, with a 2011 declared income of more
than 35 million euros, according to tax returns released
Thursday.Berlusconi, former premier three times over, reported an income of 35,439,981 euros in 2011 - a drop, however from his 2010 declared income of about 48 million euros.
Justice Minister Paola Severino was second highest on the list, reporting an income of 10.2 million euros in 2011, while straggling far below that in about eighth place was outgoing Premier Mario Monti with an 2011 income of 1.092 million euros.
In comparison, the income of Monti - who was appointed caretaker premier in November 2011 and is also a senator-for-life - is about 3% of that of Berlusconi. Elsa Fornero, the unpopular minister of labour, reported an income of almost 510,000 euros in 2011 while Finance Minister Vittorio Grilli earned just over 541,000 euros.
In this week's Italian election, Berlusconi's centre right placed second but still managed to prevent Pier Luigi Bersani's centre-left alliance from gaining a working majority in the Senate.
