Benedict to post last tweet at 17:00

@Pontifex account will be on stand-by until new pope elected

(ANSA) - Vatican City, February 28 - Benedict XVI will post his last tweet as pope at about 17:00 Italian time on Thursday, three hours before he steps down, Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi.

The spokesman said that the pontiff's @Pontifex Twitter account will remain on stand-by until a new pope is elected, adding that it will be up to Benedict's successor to decide whether to continue with this form of communication.
