Pope serene in knowledge of doing good job, spokesman says
Father Lombardi says last general audience full of emotion

(ANSA) - Vatican City, February 27 - "Today there was a
climate of great emotion but at the same time of great
serenity," Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said on
Wednesday, referring to the last general audience given by
Benedict XVI, who steps down as pope on Thursday.Lombardi noted that television cameras recorded "an extremely serene and smiling pope's face". "I saw him serene with the knowledge of having done a good job" even after the general audience, concluded Lombardi.
