Archbishop suspected of sex abuse cover-up

(ANSA) - Vatican City, February 27 - Former members of the
Mexican clergy and activists said on Wednesday that they sent a
letter to the Vatican protesting the participation of Cardinal
Norberto Rivera Carrera, Archbishop of Mexico, in the upcoming
conclave.The Mexican archbishop is accused of covering up a sex abuse scandal by a priest, Nicolas Aguilar, in his diocese while he was bishop of Tepehuanes in the 1980s.
Former Mexican clergy member Alberto Athie told the Spanish daily El Pais that "any and all cardinals involved in this tragedy that caused damage to many children should not go to the conclave".
"I invite all Mexican Catholics to send letters of protest to the Vatican," he said.
