(ANSA) - New York, February 25 - The United States and Italy
will remain friends regardless of the outcome of the Italian
general election, an American state department spokesman said
Monday."We recognize the progress made by (outgoing Premier) Mario Monti, but to make more comments on the outcome of the vote in Italy, we have to wait," the spokesman said Monday as early election results of the Italian vote were coming in.
"Italy is a long-standing ally, and friendship will continue whatever the outcome of the vote," he added.
