(see related stories) (ANSA) - Rome, February 25 - The race for the Italian Senate was neck-and-neck in the latest projection by state broadcaster Rai, with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right coalition on course to win 31.3% of the vote, compared to 30.1% for the centre left. An earlier projection, based on initial results, had given the centre right a slightly bigger lead, of around 1.5%. Votes for the Senate are being counted before those for the House, which is why there are no projections yet for the lower chamber of parliament.
Exit polls had put the centre left ahead in both houses of parliament.
