Most projections put Berlusconi's alliance in front

Interior Ministry Senate data gives centre left lead (ANSA) - Rome, February 25 - Italy's interior ministry said Monday that Pier Luigi Bersani's centre-left alliance was ahead in the race for the Italian Senate, after the votes from about half of polling stations were counted. The centre left had 32.94%, ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's centre right 29.08%, the anti-establishment M5S 24.11%, and Premier Mario Monti's reform ticket backed by centrist parties had 9.2%.

Projections by broadcasters Sky and La7 had the centre right in front, Berlusconi's own Mediaset network had the centre left ahead and state broadcaster Rai's latest projection had the two main contenders level.
