Ikea pulls meatballs from Italy as 'Horsegate' widens (ANSA) - Milan, February 25 - Swedish furniture giant IKEA yanked meatballs from sale in Italy and other countries on Monday after horsemeat was found in them in the Czech Republic.

IKEA announced that it is evaluating tests done by Czech food authorities with "extreme attention" and that the lot of meatballs in question was "immediately withdrawn" from all the locations where it had been delivered.

Italian food inspectors in Milan are investigating the meatballs sold at IKEA after the Czech inspectors' discovery prompted the country's veterinary services to alert the European Food Safety Authority. Press reports say IKEA has also pulled meatballs from Sweden, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
