(ANSA) - Rome, February 22 - Industrial output in the
metalworking sector dropped by 6.3% in Italy in 2012, falling to
around a third less than what it was before the global financial
crisis of 2008-2009, the Italian federation of metalworking
industries Federmeccanica said Friday."The first few months of this year do not show signs of recovery except for a partial reduction of the negative trend," said a Federmeccanica report. Italy also performed worse than other European countries, the federation said. Germany registered a 0.2% drop in production in 2012 and France reported a 3.1% decline.
The negative results apply to all areas of production with the exception of the air and rail sectors.
