"Sydney once again. Now it's official, I have renewed my contract with Sydney FC for one more year," Del Piero, who moved to the Australian club last year after a glorious 19-year stint at Juventus, said on his website. "That's what I wanted, and that's what the club wanted. My choice, our choice".
The 38-year-old, who helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup, has thrived in the Australian A-League, scoring 11 goals in 17 games for Sydney, who are fifth in the standings.
"I'm happy to stay in Australia, and my choice apart from my football career includes also my life and my family," added Del Piero.
"I just love being here, we all feel at home and really welcomed by this extraordinary country.
"I said that this choice wasn't based only on football, but it doesn't mean that football isn't in first place. "I am a football player and a sportsman: it is my profession and my passion. "I feel that I still have a lot to give to my team and that's the main reason I want to keep on playing, I want to give my best, to face new challenges and to win".
