Village mascot deer killed in Romagna (ANSA) - Forli', February 18 - Residents in the small Romagna town of Santa Sofia were shocked and outraged by the murder of the community's mascot deer, shot dead and taken away on Sunday night.

Belinda, an orphaned fawn, was found abandoned at a nearby country bed-and-breakfast two and a half years ago.

The adult doe became domesticated and was a village regular, sleeping on doorsteps and eating from residents hands.

Citizens have petitioned local police to investigate and find the deer's murderer.
