Bookies favor PD head Bersani in upcoming elections

Monti seen as possible alliance

(ANSA) - Rome, February 18 - Bookies on Monday gave center-left candidate Pier Luigi Bersani the lead in the upcoming Italian national elections February 24-25.

According to Paddy Power betting agency, Bersani is favored to win, while outgoing Premier Mario Monti is likely to make a pact for a possible alliance in parliament.

Bersani's coalition was ahead in the polls before a pre-election blackout of surveys kicked in earlier this month.
