(ANSA) - Rome, February 14 - Investigators said on Thursday that Melania De Nichilo, wife of the former chairman of the Rizzoli publishing empire, Angelo Rizzoli, is also being probed in her husband's fraudulent bankruptcy case.
Police on Thursday morning arrested Rizzoli accusing him of financial fraud worth some 30 million euros. Melania De Nichilo is an MP in center-right leader Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party. Following the arrest, companies and real estate assets worth some seven million euros were also seized.
Stefania Prestigiacomo, a minister in the previous government of Berlusconi, pointed to political motivations behind the actions, with the arrest and probes coming just 10 days ahead of national elections.
