(ANSA) - Rome, February 14 - Suspense built Thursday over
the identity of the new president of the controversial Vatican
bank as Vatican Spokesman Federico Lombardi refused to confirm
media reports that the Belgian Bernard De Corte had been
appointed to the post."I said yesterday that the information will be made public in due course," said Lombardi. "If people then go chasing after the news that is their responsibility".
The bank, otherwise known as the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), has been under the interim leadership of the vice-president bank's vice-president Ronaldo Hermann Schmit since former president Ettore Gotti Tedeschi was fired by the supervisory board due to alleged mismanagement in May 2012. The Commission of Cardinals that oversees the bank is expected to meet before Monday concering the matter.
