Fire in Rome's Fatebenefratelli hospital (ANSA) - Rome, February 14 - A fire that broke out Thursday at Rome's Fatebenefratelli hospital on the Tiber Island reportedly originated in the psychiatric ward when the mattress of an empty bed caught fire.

Firemen extinguished the blaze and contained the damage, but heavy smoke caused authorities to evacuate the psychiatric and maternity wards as a precaution.

Investigators are probing the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
