Pope resignation won't affect elections says Berlusconi
Just less media coverage says ex-premier

(ANSA) - Rome, February 12 - Pope Benedict XVI's shock
announcement Monday he was stepping down at the end of the month
will not affect the campaign for the February 24-25 Italian
general election apart from deflecting media coverage,
ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi told ANSA Tuesday."The news of the Pope's resignation does not have a direct influence on the electoral campaign but it is simply clear, as is obvious, that we will have less attention from the media," the three-time premier said at an ANSA forum.
