Police arrest 65 in Calabria 'Ndrangheta probe
Suspects include mayor of Melito di Porto Salvo12 February, 15:23
The suspects allegedly belonged to the Iamonte clan, which investigators say controlled all economic activity in and around the seaside town of Melito di Porto Salvo on the toe of Italy's 'boot'.
They now face possible charges of mafia association aimed at buying and selling weapons and drugs. The mayor of Melito di Porto Salvo, Gesualdo Costantino, is among the detainees. Investigators claim the 'Ndrangheta clan had also infiltrated the local public administration and interfered with municipal tenders.
