(ANSA) - Rome, February 12 - Olympic gold-medal wrestler
Andrea Minguzzi says the International Olympic Committee's
decision to eliminate wrestling from its program at the 2020
games is "total folly".Minguzzi, who won the gold at the 2008 Beijing summer games, concedes that the sport has a visibility problem.
"Perhaps wrestling is a sport which is not widely seen, but it is widely practiced; in some countries it's even the national sport," Minguzzi told ANSA.
"How can they think of excluding from the Olympics the oldest of sporting disciplines"? The Olympian said that he hoped all national federations would make their voices heard in September so as to get the IOC to "change this madness. What Olympics would they be without wrestling?"
