12 February, 18:35
(ANSA) - Prato, February 12 - A Chinese teenage girl was
charged Monday with fraud for attempting to substitute for her
mother during an Italian exam in the central city of Prato. An older boy was also apprehended for attempting to take the exam in place of a friend.
Both teenagers were seeking to help Chinese immigrants who were required to take an official Italian language exam as part of efforts to acquire Italian residency papers. Prato, near Florence, once home to a flourishing Italian textile production center, has seen a large influx of Chinese immigrants who have largely displaced the homegrown industry.
In previous days, another two incidents of fraud were reported by Prato's Istituto Mazzoni, which issues the exam.
