(ANSA) - Vatican City, February 11 - Doctors treating Pope
Benedict XVI said that he is "suffering from joint pain and
rheumatism, but it is also the weight of his role that is
affecting his general state of health".The 85-year-old pope announced on Monday that he was stepping down, citing "ingravescentem aetatem" or his "advanced age". His doctors said that the pontiff is "also suffering from chronic atrial fibrillation," but refuses to take his prescribed anticoagulant medication.
