TAV money included in EU budget deal, says Hollande
Controversial high-speed train part of transport funds

(ANSA) - Brussels, February 8 - Funds for the high-speed
TAV railway are included in those allocated for European
transportation, French President Francois Hollande said on
Friday following the announcement of the EU 2014-2020 budget
deal.The controversial TAV rail link project between Turin and Lyon has led to violent protests in Italy, but is considered by both countries as a "strategic" and "priority" piece of infrastructure for the entire European Union. Italy has also said the high-speed rail project, known in Italy as the TAV, is an important driver of economic growth.
Opponents of the project contest its high cost and impact on the environment.
