(ANSA) - Cortina d'Ampezzo, February 6 - Police in the
northern Dolomite resort of Cortina D'Ampezzo are investigating
a slew of racist graffiti that appeared throughout the town the
night between Tuesday and Wednesday.Numerous walls and buildings, mostly out of site from the town's many surveillance cameras, were scrawled with incitement to violence against ethnic groups and Muslims in black spray paint, police said.
"Racism can only come from rotten minds. This vile action is criminal and the work of useless idiots," Cortina Mayor Andrea Franceschi said.
Among the graffiti were the phrases "Burn Muslims" written on the St. Philip and St. James Basilica and "Free Veneto" on the town's most popular pastry shop.
Writings also took aim at Romanians, Africans and Roma (sometimes called Gypsies).
