Bersani says Europe important, but funds should not be cut

(ANSA) - Rome, February 6 - Centre-left leader Pier Luigi
Bersani said on Wednesday that continuing a pro-European stance
was a priority, but that it was important the EU funds for
reviving Italy's lagging economy are not cut in upcoming budget
negotiations."We cannot accept cuts for work and growth, research and sectors like agriculture," Bersani said in a radio interview on Radio Anch'io.
Outgoing Premier Mario Monti will attend European Council summit on February 7-8 to try to reach agreement on the financial framework for 2014-2020.
