Over 100 neglected horses, mules and donkeys confiscated
Owners cited, face charges of abuse and abandonment06 February, 11:02
(ANSA) - Rome, February 6 - Rome police and State veterinary authorities on Wednesday seized more than 100 horses, donkeys and mules, and cited the owners of a farm for abuse, neglect and abandonment near the Lazio town of Velletri.
Police were alerted by the Italian Horse Protection Association Equidae, who told authorities that the animals were "subjected to harsh winter temperatures, exposed to the elements, living in mud, undernourished and suffering".
The task force coordinated by the Italian Health Ministry said that they found the animals in "an obvious state of suffering and malnutrition".
Most of the animals have been transferred to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Perugia, for urgent care. Investigators have ordered a search of all properties belonging to the owners.
