(ANSA) - Vatican City, February 5 - The Holy See on Tuesday
denied reports that senior managers at the scandal-hit Monte dei
Paschi di Siena (MPS) bank held funds in the Vatican Bank, the
Institute for Religious Works (IOR).Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said Monday's reports in daily newspaper the Corriere della Sera were "not reliable".
Last week the former head of the Vatican bank, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi, was questioned by prosecutors investigating suspect operations at the MPS bank.
The prosecutors were especially interested in discussing MPS's nine-billion-euro acquisition of Antonveneta in 2008 from Spanish bank Santander.
Gotti Tedeschi was in charge of Santander's operations in Italy before becoming president of the IOR in 2009.
The IOR's board ousted him from that post last year.ßßß
