Italy losing pristine land to development at alarming rate (ANSA) - Rome, February 5 - Due to rapid construction, Italy loses pristine land equal in size to the city of Naples every five months, the Environmental Protection Institute announced Tuesday. The research group said in 2010 Italy lost 21,000 square kilometers of land to development of some kind. The current loss rate is approximately eight square meters per second.
