Milan's historic San Babila theatre to close

Venue to cease activities due to eviction notice

(ANSA) - Milan, February 1 - The historic San Babila theatre in Milan will be closing ahead of the upcoming season, according to an announcement made by its director Gennaro D'Avanzo on Friday.

The plan to cease activities was drawn up after an appeals court overturned a first degree sentence which had quashed an eviction notice to the theatre by the owners of the building it operates in. An association created to protest the destiny of the theatre called "Comitato Spontaneo Pro Teatro San Babila" has received the backing of actors Anna Mazzamauro and Massimo Dapporto.
