Mancino given Mafia request list, jailed boss Brusca says
Ex-interior minister implicated in alleged State-Mafia dealings

(ANSA) - Rome, February 1 - Former interior minister Nicola
Mancino allegedly took a list of requests by the Sicilian Mafia
to the Italian state in alleged negotiations in the 1990s,
jailed Mafia boss-turned police informant Giovanni Brusca told a
preliminary court hearing in Rome on Friday.
Brusca and Mancino are both facing charges over their
suspected involvement in talks between the Italian state and
Cosa Nostra in a bid to stop a long campaign of violence that
culminated in the deaths of anti-mob prosecutors Giovanni
Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992.Brusca, who carried out the Falcone killing, is suspected of violence or threat of violence to the political body of the state. Mancino, who later served as speaker of Italy's Senate, is accused of false testimony. "I never received any request" to "soften the State's efforts to combat the Mafia" said the former interior minister in response to the accusations. There are a further nine suspects in the case, including Mafia bosses, ex-anti-Mafia police officers and current members of Parliament.
