Woman, robber killed in crash after 50-euro theft in Italy (ANSA) - Terni, January 31 - A 25-year-old woman was killed early on Thursday when her car was hit by a vehicle carrying two robbers, one of whom also died, police said.

The men were were being chased by police after reportedly being part of a gang of four that broke into a house in the Abruzzo town of Massa d'Albe and forced the elderly owner to hand over 50 euros.

The crash took place on a highway between the central Italian cities of Terni and Spoleto when the robbers' car went into the lane of oncoming traffic after taking a corner too fast, according to police reconstructions.

The woman was a student who was on her way back from a night out with her boyfriend. Both of the men were Albanian. The survivor, a 21-year-old, has been taken to hospital in Spoleto in a critical condition.
