Berlusconi's alliance pulls within 5% of center-left
Gap narrows after media blitz, Five Star Movement in 3rd place

(ANSA) - Rome, January 31 - For the first time since the
Italian national election countdown began, the distance between
the two main coalitions dropped below the 5% threshold, an
opinion poll said Thursday.
The centre-right coalition led by the People of Freedom
(PdL) party of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi has inched closer to
its rival centre-left coalition led by the Democratic Party (PD)
and its secretary Pier Luigi Bersani with less than five weeks
before Italians are due to go to the polls to elect their new
parliament.The centre left stands at 33.6%, down 0.2% over the same time last week, according to the latest survey by pollster Tecne' for the Sky TG24 news program.
The centre-right coalition, led by Berlusconi's (PdL) party gained 0.1% to come in at 28.7%.
The populist, anti-establishment Five Star Movement of Genoa comedian Beppe Grillo continued its positive performance, gaining 0.5% to stand at 15.7%.
The centrist coalition led by outgoing Premier Mario Monti gained 0.2% to stand at 13.8%.
Civil Revolution, a new party led by Palermo anti-mafia magistrate Antonio Ingroia, dropped 0.1% to 4.7%.
