Naples businessman offers to pay for neighborhood bus diesel
'Kids are missing school, the elderly can't buy groceries'30 January, 14:46
"I can't allow my neighbors to be isolated without transportation," said Roberto Fogliame, who told officials he would personally bankroll bus diesel in the Ponticelli neighborhood for one week. "Our neighborhood is working-class with few transportation options. Today many kids couldn't get to school and the elderly couldn't buy groceries". Almost the entire fleet of the public transport company - Azienda Napoletana Mobilita' (ANM) - remained in the parking lot Wednesday because it is no longer able to pay for fuel.
ANM said a number of buses began morning routes, but were forced to return when their tanks ran low. It later announced refueling had begun and buses should be back in action by the afternoon local time.
