Pompeii protesters march against new tourist bus tax
Shop owners and citizens complain duty will discourage arrivals

(ANSA) - Naples, January 29 - Shop owners and citizens of
Pompeii, home to the world-famous ruins, on Tuesday held a
protest march to complain against a new tax on buses which is
seen as discouraging tourist arrivals.Shop owners say the new tax, 80 euros per bus, will be an extra burden on tourists who are already straying from the town because of its poor parking facilities.
New pedestrian zones have also hurt arrivals, businesses and shop owners citizens claim. The protestors, numbering some 200, marched under a banner reading "shop owners and citizens of Pompeii united for their future".
The protesters' march was to end at town hall, where the protesters were to hand the mayor the keys to their stores, as a symbol of the town's current economic difficulties.
