Retail sales in recession-hit Italy fall again (ANSA) - Rome, January 24 - Retail sales in recession-hit Italy fell again in November, Istat said Thursday, dropping 3.1% on the same month in 2011.

The national statistics agency said sales in November were 0.4% lower than in October.

It added that it was the eighth consecutive year-on-year drop and the fifth consecutive month-on-month fall. Food sales were 0.2% lower in November than in the same month in 2011.

Year-on-year sales were 3.9% down in small shops and 2.1% down in major retail networks. Discount food outlets, however, saw sales increase by 1.2%.

Istat said retail sales were 2% down in the first 11 months of last year compared to the same period of 2011.
