23 January, 11:24
(ANSA) - Milan, January 23 - Fabrizio Corona, Italy's most
famous paparazzi agent who fled last week when a five-year
conviction for blackmailing VIPs with compromising photographs
was upheld, has turned himself in to police in Lisbon, sources
close to the investigation said on Wednesday.Corona disappeared on Friday just hours before the Court of Cassation confirmed the ruling, meaning the sentence had become effective and he had to go to prison.
The notorious personality, who made headlines in Italy for his colourful exploits and super-model girlfriends, had been on probation in Milan for a prior conviction.
Police surveillance lost sight of him after he entered a gym, and he is believed to have slipped away by a side exit.
His flight from the law means an additional two years and 10 months time will be added to his prison sentence.
Milan's Interpol mobile squad had been leading the search for the high-profile fugitive.
