Crisis leaving 'deep wounds' across Italian society

(ANSA) - Rome, January 23 - Italy's big-business lobby group
is calling for dramatic reforms aimed at boosting growth to save
the country from economic disaster."The crisis is leaving deep wounds...it is an economic and social disaster," Confindustria said Wednesday in a document proposing a number of reforms to be implemented over the next five years. That must include more dramatic labour reforms, beyond those already introduced by the government of Premier Mario Monti.
The group also called for measures to cut red tape, streamline bureaucracy and public spending, sell public property, improving business incentives and tax reductions.
Given the campaign underway for the general election February 24 and 25, "now is the time to debate serious reforms," said the lobby group.
