Italy second only to Malta in high inactivity rate
Over 37% of working-age population unemployed and not looking

(ANSA) - Rome, January 22 - The inactivity rate for people
of working age in Italy was second only to Malta among European
countries in 2011, Istat said Tuesday.According to the national statistics agency, inactivity among those aged 15 to 64 was 37.8% in 2011. Female inactivity was 48.5%. Inactivity is defined as unemployed and not looking for work.
