Top paparazzo Fabrizio Corona flees from Italian justice (ANSA) - Turin, January 21 - A European Arrest Warrant (EAW) was issued by the Turin prosecutor's office on Monday for Fabrizio Corona, Italy's most famous paparazzo convicted of blackmailing VIPs with compromising photographs. Corona disappeared on Friday just hours before Italy's highest appeals court, the Court of Cassation, handed down its confirmation of a five-year prison sentence.

The notorious personality, who made headlines in Italy for his colourful exploits and super-model girlfriends, had been on probation in Milan for a prior conviction. Corona went missing at 11:30am local time on Friday, a few hours before the supreme Cassation Court announced its decision.

Police surveillance lost sight of him after he entered a gym, and he is believed to have slipped away by a side exit.

Corona's probation has been suspended, and his flight from the law means an additional two years and 10 months time will be added to his prison sentence.

Milan's Interpol mobile squad is leading the search for the high-profile fugitive.
