Soccer: Ballardini set to return after Genoa sack Delneri

Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Catania sparks change on bench

(ANSA) - Genoa, October 22 - Struggling Genoa look set to reappoint former coach Davide Ballardini after sacking Luigi Delneri following Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Catania in Serie A.

Ballardini will be Genoa's third coach this season. Delneri replaced Luigi De Canio in October, when Italy's oldest club were midtable, following a poor run of form.

They are now third from bottom and in a relegation battle after losing nine games out of 13 under former Juventus, AS Roma and Chievo Verona boss Del Neri.

It is Serie A's eighth change of coach so far this season.

Sampdoria, bottom side Siena, second-bottom Palermo, Chievo Verona, Cagliari and Pescara have also changed coaches.
