IMF inspectors in Italy to test financial services sector (ANSA) - Milan, January 21 - Inspectors from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began conducting stress tests at some Italian banks on Monday.

The tests, likely to continue all week, are part of a broader assessment of the stability of the country's financial institutions. Inspectors began with some of the country's largest institutions based in Milan, assessing risks as part of its regular Financial Sector Assessment Program.

According to the IMF, the program involves "a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of a country's financial sector" and is a "key instrument" of the Fund's surveillance work. photo: IMF President Christine Lagarde
