(ANSA) - Rome, November 21 - Rome's historic Castel
Sant'Angelo was evacuated Wednesday and the bomb squad was
called in after a strange black box was found.Museum staff cleared the ancient structure, built originally as a tomb for the Roman emperor Hadrian, and called police when an abandoned box with antenna, batteries and a flashing LED was found next to a wall at the foot of a statue.
Police were still examining the object Wednesday afternoon local time.
The tomb was constructed on the right bank of the Tiber, near what became the Vatican, between 130 AD and 139 AD, and eventually became a castle for popes.
