The new bridge will be a 220-metre-long pedestrian one, 10 metres wide and 25 metres above the surface of the water at its highest point. The work designed by Leonardo da Vinci will be built with the integration of more modern building technologies.
The project, which Turkish daily Hurriyet reports Istanbul's metropolitan administration has already approved, will be carried out under the direction of a group of international figures who have been working on it for three years.
There was no mention of when the works would start.
