(ANSA) - Ascoli Piceno, October 12 - A restored portrait of
fascist dictator Benito Mussolini has sparked the ire of locals
after it was returned to a high school in Italy. The painting depicts Mussolini riding a white horse and brandishing a sword.
It was originally created for exposition at the Umberto I Technical Institute in the town of Ascvoli Piceno in central Italy after it was built in 1937.
Headmaster Arturo Verna said he sees the painting as "an allegory of Mussolini, or better still of the school system reform that the fascist movement wanted".
Local citizens have called for the portrait to be removed, calling it "unconstitutional".
