Italy president says electoral reform must provide stability
New law to provide incentives

(ANSA) - Rome, October 12 - Italian President Giorgio
Napolitano called for the nation's new electoral law to
"guarantee the stability of the nation's government", according
to a letter written by the head of state to Senate Speaker
Renato Schifani.Napolitano called for reform to avoid "incentives to guarantee the stability of the nation's government" and to avoid the mushrooming of "vast electoral groupings of dubious capacity". Napolitano's comments come as the Senate's Constitutional Affairs Committee initiated discussions about reforming Italy's current electoral system.
