Soccer: After landing Del Piero, Sydney eye Totti (ANSA) - Rome, October 11 - After signing former Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero, Sydney FC have set their sights on another Italian soccer great - AS Roma forward Francesco Totti.

"He (Totti) is an extraordinary player," Sydney CEO Tony Pignata told the website of Italian news weekly Panorama.

"At the moment he's having a great season with Roma, but in the future, who knows?".

Totti, who was part of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning team like Del Piero and is a year younger at 36, has only ever played senior football for Roma, the club he supported as a child.

Pignata also praised Del Piero, who left Juventus after 19 glorious years in the closed season.

"His great humility has amazed me above everything else," the CEO said. "His career does not finish here. He wants to win more". Del Piero, meanwhile, said the Heysel Stadium disaster in which 39 Juventus fans were killed before the 1985 European Cup final against Liverpool was part of the reason why he turned down a move to the English side. "The negotiations with Sydney were at an advanced stage (when Liverpool made an offer) and I thought about what happened at Heysel," Del Piero said in an interview published in Thursday's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Juventus and Liverpool were able to rebuild relations (after), but that tragedy is an indelible memory for many people".
