Move to stop alcohol sales to under-18s (ANSA) - Rome, October 10 - The Italian parliament passed an amendment Wednesday aimed at stopping alcohol sales to under-18s.

Pubs and retail outlets that do so would get fines ranging from 250 to 1,000 euros.

The penalties would be doubled, and the premises shut for three months, in case of repeat offences, the amendment said.

Youth drinking has been on the rise for years in Italy and this year cases of teenagers being hospitalised after binge-drinking have claimed headlines.
