(ANSA) - Imola, September 21 - A circus giraffe was on the
loose in a town outside Bologna, causing damage to cars and
leading police on a chase for hours on Friday.
Witnesses spotted its long neck from blocks away as it
galloped across the historic center of Imola, crossing busy
streets in early rush-hour traffic.
Drivers reported hoof damage to their cars, portions of
which crumpled beneath the weight of the animal's 920 kilograms,
but no injuries were reported.
Police eventually cornered the giraffe in the fenced
parking lot of a Coop grocery store and subdued it with two
tranquilizers.
It was returned to the Rinaldo Orfei Circus by midday.
