Police bust protection racket in Puglia
Four Carabinieri among 16 arrested

(ANSA) – Lucera (Foggia), September 18 – Law enforcement
officers on Tuesday arrested 16 people including four members of
Italy's Carabinieri paramilitary police force in connection with
extortion in the southern region of Puglia.
The Carabinieri, based in Lucera in the province of Foggia,
are suspected of providing support to a criminal gang that
operates a local protection racket and which is also allegedly
behind the murder of a member of a rival group.
