Senate justice committee moves to make torture an offence
Measure to bring Italy into line with international standards

(ANSA) - Rome, September 12 - The Senate justice committee
unanimously approved a bill Wednesday to make torture an offence
in Italy.The move is designed to bring Italian law into line with international standards.
Felice Casson, vice-president of Italy's centre-left Democratic Party, said he was pleased with the decision.
"Now also in Italy, we recognize that this is a crime against humanity," he said.
