Church repaired where priest died trying to save Mary statue
Earthquake debris struck Father Ivan Martini

(ANSA) - Rome, August 8 - Reconstruction began Wednesday on
the earthquake-damaged church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria
near the town of Modena where Father Ivan Martini died while
trying to save a Mary statue.
Martini was killed by falling debris when he entered the
church in a fatal attempt to try and save a statue of the
Madonna after an earthquake struck on May 29.
Churchgoers of the village Rovereto di Novi removed most of
the items found under the debris being removed by repair teams,
including busts of St. Peter and St. Paul.Parishioners thanked the fire brigade teams that assisted them in the retrieval of the objects for "their work and courageous availability". The surrounding Emilia-Romagna region, which suffered two deadly earthquakes in May, is undergoing widespread reconstruction.
