Trevi Fountain loses pieces from facade
Rome mayor looking into sponsors for restoration

(ANSA) - Rome, June 11 - Water infiltration from last
February's snowfall and spring rains have caused damage to
Rome's famous Trevi Fountain that lost several small pieces off
its facade over the weekend, Rome councillor Dino Gasperini
said.Gasperini said that there was nothing "worriesome" about the slight damage and that the stone laurel leaves that fell from the top frieze would be restored soon.
Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno said on Monday that the city is looking into the possibility of a sponsor to cover restoration, as was done with the Colosseum and other archeological monuments of the city.
The Trevi Fountain was imortalized in Fellini's classic film La Dolce Vita in which Anita Ekberg cavorts with Marcello Mastroianni in the fountain.
